Low impact full body workouts that help your body in every way.

Pilates is an amazing form of exercise that uses low impact movements to flex, tone and strengthen your core and stabilising muscles. The first thing you will notice from pilates is that the exercises look pretty simple and easy – but don’t be fooled! Each movement targets a specific muscle, using breath and technique to give it a full workout, and we guarantee you will be feeling it the next day. Pilates is great for all body types and all fitness levels.

At Optimise Health, our classes are 40-minutes and have a 5 person maximum. They are completed on-site and all equipment is provided, just bring a towel and water bottle. No experience necessary, only an initial physiotherapy assessment prior to commencing classes to ensure suitability.

What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a unique system of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates during the early 20th century. Originally titled Contrology, Pilates is designed to focus on the building of the body, specifically core strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Pilates incorporates precise movements with controlled breathing, concentration, and movement flow to unite mind and body.

The main principles of Pilates are:

  • Centring: Movements always originate from the core.
  • Concentration: Utmost mental focus on each movement.
  • Control: Controlling movements with precision and intention, without any momentum.
  • Precision: Cautiousness in holding alignment and correct form.
  • Breath: Synchronised and controlled breathing patterns that accompany and ease movements.
  • Flow: Smooth, unbroken movements rather than distinct, jerky movements.

Pilates at Optimise Health is performed using specialised equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrel. These methods are designed to build strength, improve flexibility, and enhance overall body control through guided, targeted movement.
